About WSOP.com

is the flagship site for legalized real-money online poker in the USA, with licensed play available in Nevada, New Jersey, and , with Delaware possibly joining the party in 2023. Being the only legal option for many American players means that WSOP.com has a captive player base but it’s still a top-tier online poker site with something for all kinds of players.

The site offers safe and secure banking options along with geo-location software that ensures only players within state lines are able to play cash games or tournaments. You also don’t have to worry about the quality of opponents, as WSOP.com attracts a mix of amateurs, professionals, and everyone in between.

All of this made WSOP.com the perfect platform for the World Series of Poker to expand its brand beyond Las Vegas during the COVID-19 pandemic. The main idea behind moving WSOP online was simple: give players a way to compete for WSOP gold bracelets and life-changing money during a time when in-person gaming was impossible in NV.

WSOP.com Events

Prior to 2020, WSOP.com hosted a single event in 2015 for players in Nevada and , the WSOP International Circuit WSOP.com National Online Championship. won that tournament’s title and $207,481 prize after defeating almost 700 competitors. The entire final table was made up international players from Belgium, Canada, United Kingdom, Mexico, and Uruguay.

Planned Expansion into Other US States?

It would certainly be beneficial for the WSOP to offer its online platform in more states but, as of yet, there’s been no news about an imminent expansion. In order to offer its services, WSOP.com first needs a licensing agreement with each individual state and that can be a long and expensive process.

New Jersey wasn’t too difficult because it already had an online gaming infrastructure in place thanks to partnerships with Atlantic City casinos. However, Delaware didn’t already have such resources so the state and WSOP.com had to work together to establish an online network of servers and databases.

Pennsylvania is another state that’s been discussing online gaming licensing for years but, as of yet, no operators have launched sites. California is another possibility but disagreements between land-based casinos have stalled any potential plans thus far.

It seems likely that WSOP.com will expand to other states eventually, but don’t hold your breath. When asked by PokerListings Managing Editor Drew Amato during the 2021 WSOP Main Event if he hoped to see WSOP online events in PA, Schneider replied: "Absolutely, I do. But, it is not easy. It takes forever just to get a license and then to develop the software to talk to their server, which is a whole different thing than New Jersey. Even Delaware was challenging because we had to build new servers for Delaware."
