With Borgata/BetMGM I can literally play the same tournaments that I play when I’m in town, from the comfort of my own home. The geolocation software isn’t perfect though today it placed me at the Hard Rock Casino & Hotel (not bad at all but I wasn’t playing poker there). Borgata/BetMGM NJ Software
The software is fine but not great. It seems a bit slow at times but perhaps that’s just my internet connection. There are definitely bugs as well. For example, last night I was disconnected after my tablet timed out during a hand. When I reopened the app, I was still at my table but all of my hole cards were face up. Needless to say, I didn’t advance. The feature I like best about the software is the ability to watch other people’s tables. If I’m waiting to get into a sit and go, I can see what’s going on in other games instead of getting the boring old timer. Another cool thing is that you can play two games simultaneously on separate tables.
Games Offered in New Jersey
There is a good selection of cash games, with limits ranging from $0.01/$0.02 to $100/$200. All the usual varieties are available, including No-Limit Hold’em, Pot-Limit Omaha, Limit Hold’em, and Fixed-Limit Texas Strait ‘n’ O. There’s also a nice variety of tournaments, both freezeout and shootout, five- and six-max, Hold’em and Omaha. Buy-ins range from freerolls up to $500. There are satellites into Borgata casinos events and other live tournaments such as the World Series of Poker. On Sundays, they have a $40,000 guaranteed tournament with a $300 buy-in. There are also some interesting variants such as Crazy Pineapple, which starts with each player dealt three hole cards. You get to keep all three in the preflop action but must discard one in the small blind and one in the big blind.

If one of your passengers should happen to win a sit and go or an MTT, you get a free tourney ticket. Since I busted two tournaments rather quickly, I chose a passenger seat for a $30 daily with $5k guaranteed. Of course, I then won that tournament for $689 so I guess I shouldn’t complain. I did tip the person who got me there -- that's poker etiquette - but not before taking out my cost plus a little something extra for being asleep at the wheel.
Borgata/BetMGM NJ Software Glitches
As mentioned above I did get disconnected from a sit and go and when I reopened the app, I was seated at the table but with my cards face up. I tried to contact support but there doesn’t appear to be a way to do that through the app itself. I sent them an email instead. While I haven’t heard back yet, when I logged onto the desktop version the next day I received the following message: "Welcome Back !!! We apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced last evening. As a gesture of goodwill, your account has been credited 1,000,00 play$. Please let us know if we can ever be of assistance." So all worked out okay in the end although I’m not sure I would rely solely on the in-app messaging system.

Everyone isn’t a winner and that applies to poker players as well. Still it does seem that the general skill level of those playing on Borgata/BetMGM is somewhat lacking. In particular, the $0.25/$0.50 No-Limit Hold’em games seem quite juicy. At one point I was sitting with $300 and was up to $900 in less than an hour. Alas, I got complacent and decided to write an article instead of focusing on poker. By the time I returned, my roll was down to $200. Still it was nice to know that the games do have some potential.
Overall I’d have to say I’m quite happy with Borgata/BetMGM. The fact that the money and loyalty play transfer directly to the casino makes depositing a no brainer. I deposited $100 and received the $30 in play and loyalty bonus on top of that. I then played the Gold Fever SnG and won the $689 in the passenger seat. After paying my dues at the hold’em tables, I converted any remaining credits to loyalty bonus. Now I need to accumulate another $10 in loyalty play before I can withdraw the bonus but that shouldn’t be a problem playing the hold’em games.
One final note about security. It appears that Borgata/BetMGM uses a dynamic password that changes every 30 seconds. This is in addition to your login/password pair. The first time I logged on from my phone, I received a text message with a random set of numbers and letters. I had to enter that in addition to my password in order to log on. The next time, I’m assuming the password will be different. This is actually a really secure method of protecting against unauthorized access.

Gold Fever SNG's on Borgata/BetMGM require either 3 or 6 players. If it's a 3 handed game you'll be playing for a minimum jackpot of $250, if it's 6 handed it'll be a minimum of $500. Jackpots can grow much larger though, with $3,000 being the maximum for a single game.
